I decided to try a German model for this next ship. A new challenge with different (sparcer) instructions, but high quality parts.
Beginnings are always exciting!
The 5 small pages of instructions on this ship are just terrible, but that makes it more of a challenge. Here, I have done the first planking, sanded and primed.
The instructions called for cutting the skuppers (the 3 slits in the bulwark on etiher side) after the second planking is done. I saw this a disaster in the making.
So I cut the holes near the deck at this stage so that I can extend the planking under the holes and make it more clean and beautiful.
I also modified the rudder (not in picture), cut the hole for it at the stern and used a brass rod to make it movable.
Now I'm starting to plank the deck. Next I will second plank the rest of the ship.
Now it's starting to shape up.
