Port Orford Coast Guard Boat USCG 36500
I posted the pictures of the Bluenose on Facebook and then got an email from a friend from the Cape Blanco Hertiage Society in town.
They wanted a model replica of the lifeboat which is currently at the museum a few blocks from my house.
There were three of these boats made in the 1940's, one of which stared in the movie, The Finest Hours.
The kit I was given was an American made Dumas model which was very different from the Latina models I had been doing.
The kit is presented as RC capable if you install the motors and fiberglass the hull.
As the completed model was never to be put in water, I did not do that but there was more sanding and painting than I like.
Too messy! Now I know to get kits with hardwoods and not balsawood and basswood.
Messy!
At this point I was so tired of painting and sanding... I just HAD to put some walnut on the decks!
